Red Mountain

I took this in October 2009 and it's been sitting in my hard drive mocking me all this time.  It had so much potential but I just couldn't make it work until I broke it out and reworked for my Father's birthday present this year.

On our way to my sister-in-law's wedding in St. Louis, I whipped to the shoulder of the freeway for this shot.  I think we were somewhere in Illinois.

Whipped the car over and nabbed this on the way out to dinner.  Lake LeBouf in Waterford, PA.
Still no power to my laptop (don't get me started), thus only minimal post processing.  I used my trusty Cokin grad ND to cut down on the bright sky.

I've visited this little pond at least 10 times and the light just wasn't ever right.  I could have used a little more character in the clouds today but otherwise it was magic.

This large Common Garden Spider has a fleur de lis on her back, not so common after all.
To give you a sense of scale, imagine her gripping a quarter. She's a big gal.

Statistically speaking, I see no way that I did not contract the West Nile virus this afternoon.  The sheer number of mosquito bites I received would make it nearly impossible for me to remain uninfected.  The gashes in my legs from the nearly impenetrable multiflora rose combined with the omnipresent poison ivy will surely turn me into a walking rash by morning.  But I loved every minute.  It was a peaceful afternoon by myself in nature.
